"Till I reach the golden strand, just beyond the river. Till my ransomed soul shall find rest beyond the river" ~from a hymn, this piece was not inspired by this hymn but when I heard it, it sounded like it was describing my painting.

I decided to try out this paint because I don't always feel that good about using acrylic paints. I would really love to run an ecologically sustainable business, one that's good for the planet!

However I'm not sure if I will make the switch from Acrylic to this paint yet....for multiple reasons. One being that this paint was hard to work with but I think that is due to the way I mixed it.

I actually mixed the pigment into the medium myself! It was fun, but very time-consuming. The down side to that was that I didn't know what I was doing and the paint came with no instructions. So I ended up mixing the paint very opaque (see through).

The other thing that gets me, and you can give me your opinion on all these points, anyways the company "Natural Earth Paint" will not tell me the ingredients in the paint because they're waiting on a patent.

It's also not biodegradable because it's meant to be permanent, which makes sense, that's what you want in a painting.

Which also brings me to the other point I'm not sure about, is how long will the colors will last, will they last a 100+ years or fade in 50?

There's also not as many colors to choose from, there's only 20 and this is the only brand that makes this kind of paint. Of course that makes sense because they're using natural pigments from the earth and a lot of the toxins in our paint are for those really bright colors like I like to use.

So these are just my thoughts I'm mulling over these days about my art practice. If nothing else, I have a new medium to work with and can feel good about it when I do, especially when I paint in nature.
