“Get it Out” is about expressing our emotions. No sense in repressing or holding things inside, if it needs to be felt, feel it and let it go.

Oftentimes we cannot fully release our emotions, (or be released from them) until we have truly felt them. Emotions are energy in motion and they do require our energy and attention. Usually some rest afterwards too.

Turns out spending a day crying and processing isn’t a waste of time after all. We all need permission and space to feel what we need to feel and I hope this painting can do that for you!

This is really one of the darkest paintings I’ve ever done. In fact the most recent dark piece I did I didn’t even publish because it’s just so unlike me. (Although, I may publish it now.)

I’ve always held back from making dark art for 2 reasons, one I was literally too afraid to “go there” for a really long time and it’s only been recently that I’ve felt I have the strength to face it. And two, because I wasn’t sure that I wanted to put “dark” energy out into the world. However, now I see it is a beautiful opportunity to share our human experience, maybe give someone else the strength to face it. Maybe someone has a shadow that wants to be released but they don’t even know it’s there, art and music have a comforting way of revealing what is within us, saying, “Look at me, I need your attention” Those who are ready to do this inner work will find their way to the music and art that can help them process.

Thank you for allowing me the honor to hold this “scary space”. I never knew what it could mean and I do not take it lightly.

Although this girl is using an unhealthy method to “get it out”, using her own hands to destroy herself and rip her heart apart, basically choking herself to grab and rip out whatever it is that is holding her down and feeling so awful, I still had intentions of healing while creating this piece. This is the ugly middle, the stuff no one sees behind closed doors, but when it is done, the relief that comes! That’s where it’s at! And it’s worth doing the work to get there.
